Stakeholders
If you are a Learning Provider, Business Organisation, Trade Association Trade Union or a Women″s Professional Association we need your help.
As part of ‘Train to Gain‘ a large government subsidy has been made available in London to train women in work or returning to work to Level 3, whatever their current level of education. This women only, London pilot will substantially reduce business training budgets, and in some circumstances 100% of the training bill can be paid. This will allow London businesses to train its female staff to a high level, dramatically reduce training costs and give staff the skills to increase productivity. In short, better:
- Staff retention
- Productivity & skills utilisation
- Succession planning
- Staff morale
Whilst Train to Gain is not new, the London Women″s initiative is. It″s available to all women to train to Level 3, whether they have no qualifications or a PhD. Also, any employees who have already been a beneficiary of Train to Gain to Level 2, are still eligible for this extra training.
Just as in the national Train to Gain initiative, specialist skills brokers will provide free impartial advice to businesses, so that they can match the skills needed to a training provider. This training fits around business, is flexible and is geared to suit the needs of business and their employees with minimum disruption.
Why Women, why London?
It is predicted that by 2016, 70% of jobs in London will be taken by women, but currently not enough women are trained with the skills some businesses need. Women in London are also less likely to return to work after a career break than elsewhere, but this is set to change and we need to help make that change happen. Women in London are also:
- Under represented in many business sectors such as transport, construction, finance & engineering
- Under represented in management & supervisory roles
These circumstances are generally worse in London than nationally, so the Train to Gain Women’s initiative is aiming to redress this predicted skills shortage before it impacts business in London and the wider national economy.
